What do you use your mobile device for?
Maybe if it’s a smartphone, you use it for phone calls, messaging, and email. If it’s a tablet, maybe you use it for notation and other business related needs.
But out of those needs and more, you’re mostly using your mobile device to be entertained. And what’s more entertaining than watching your favorite web series on your way to work.
In today’s In-Sites, let’s explore the many benefits of video marketing, and more specifically, mobile video marketing and how it applies to modern mobile design
Thirty-four percent of mobile video minutes were watched while people were out and about. People watching digital video outside the home are also 1.8x more likely than average to be meaningfully engaged because they are likely to be watching video for active purposes, such as looking for information or exploring a passion.— Think with Google
Binge on the go
How many times have you watched something on the go? From traveling to work or just taking some time off in the break room, watching videos on your mobile device is more common now more than ever.
With larger smartphone screens like the iPhone 6 Plus and the iPhone 7 Plus, for example, it is easier to watch and binge on content from YouTube or YouTube Red as well as appified streaming sites like Netflix, Hulu or Amazon as they provide entertainment on the go not only for you but also for your audience.
Key takeaway: Be where your audience is online. Do your research. If most of your audience is on the go and prefer to watch videos over reading blog posts, invest in video production. Make videos for YouTube, Vimeo, or you can host them on your own website. If 34% of people are watching mobile video while they are out of the house, away from their desktops, it’s time to step up your marketing game by producing video content. Sharing is caring
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat all have one thing in common. They all provide video. Video especially online video thrives off social media.
For example, you can share your YouTube videos to Facebook, Twitter and Google+ right as you publish it. Or if you are watching a YouTube video, you can share it to even more social platforms outside of just Facebook and Twitter, i.e. Reddit and Tumblr. You can host your videos directly onto Facebook for better targeted marketing—making sure that the people you want watch your content. You can use Instagram and Snapchat stories to create a behind the scenes series about your brand or you can provide them with new insight about your events, updates in your industry, etc.
Our world is getting smaller with the aid of social media and our mobile devices. For example:
- 1.01 billion mobile monthly active users as of March 31, 2014.
- 78% of Twitter’s active users are on mobile.
- Number of snaps sent per day on SnapChat is 400 Million.
- 40% of YouTube traffic comes from mobile.
- 44K is the average number of daily LinkedIn mobile job applications.
And now with live video, you can see first hand what is going on in anyone’s world from friends and loved ones to big brands. Facebook Live, YouTube Live, Meerkat, live.ly, and Periscope are just a few apps that have helped us create a live experience for our audience.
Key takeaway: Create relevant content. Social media is saturated with updates, videos, blog posts, selfies, news, events, and other forms of content. For you to break through the noise, you have to be targeted and personal. Know your audience. Know where and when your audience is online. Know the types of content your audience enjoys to read and watch. In order for your content to be shared as well as your social notoriety to increase, provide an experience for your audience that you know they will click on.
